Who Can Learn


The minimum age for learning to drive is seventeen. Anybody in good health and is able to read a vehicle number plate at a distance of 20.5 Meters which is 67ft in good daylight is entitled to drive.Before actually driving on the road a Provisional Licence is required this is obtainable by sending an application ( application forms available at the local Post office ) to the Driver And Vehicle licensing Agency. A fee Is payable for the Licence.

The Theory Test
The Theory test consists of two parts.Both test must be passed together to get a Theory Pass Certificate and only after this a Practical test can be taken.The 1st has 50 Multiple choice questions of all aspect of driving from Road signs, rules of the road, traffic law, documentation to basic car maintenance. To pass this part of the test, atleast 43 questions must be answered correctly.
 The Hazard Perception Test
 
The 2nd part is the Hazard Perception Test is consisted of Video Clips of a car driving through different road conditions viewed on a computer and the candidate is required to use the computer mouse to click and respond to a possible Hazard that is visible on the video clip.

Depending on how quickly the response has been to click on the Hazard will determine the score of the test. There are 14 video clips lasting about a minute long.  Out of 75 points, a minimum of 44 points should be achieved to pass this part of the test.

 

When both the question part and Hazard Perception test are successfully completed a Pass Certificate will be given to the candidate. If a candidate has only passed one of the tests, both part of the test should be taken again.  
 The Practical Test


The Practical test, this the time when the test candidate has to prove their ability and show the confidence to drive safely under control through varied and changing road conditions and also carry out 2 out of 4 clutch control exercises which are -:
  1. The Turn in the Road.
  2. The Corner Reverse
  3. Parallel Parking
  4. The Bay Parking
Candidates may also be asked to carry out an Emergency Stop. 

For a period of about 10 minutes candidates will be asked to drive independently by either following road signs or a series of direction given by the driving test examiner.

At the start of the Practical Test Candidates will be asked to show and explain or demonstrate how basic Car Maintenance checks are made.
The total duration of the test is 40 minutes after which the Candidates will be given the result of the test.
Only 15 minor Driving Faults are allowed before the Candidate is failed. Committing one Serious or a Dangerous Fault will result in a failure.
